Wendy's Slipper Message
by Sharon Throop
After the terrible day that will live in our hearts and minds forever of November 12th, 1996, some events have transpired that you may take some comfort in, as we have. One such happening involved a slipper, Wendy's slipper.
A few months after she died I was doing the wash, and collecting all the clothes from upstairs and the hamper. I had begun to wear some of Wendy's clothes as we always shared clothes and it was a struggle when she was going to college as to what she was taking, as we both wanted to have the access to each others clothes. One article of clothing that I started to use was a pair of her slippers, the dearform slip-on kind that you can wash. Well, at any rate, I was starting the laundry and decided to wash the slippers that were Wendy's that I now wore. I started the laundry cycles and after the drying cycle was done, I started to sort/fold the articles within, and found that one slipper was missing. I searched the washer, nothing. I searched the house, nothing. It was really starting to drive my short-minded brain waves into a frenzy when I finally gave up. Now bear in mind that I rarely entered Wendy's room anymore, just to dust or perhaps stand in the doorway and reflect on her life and try to *not* relive the last day...
After a week, I had almost forgotten about the slipper and written it off as I must have lost this one good (!), when I went into Wendy's room to dust and there was the slipper laying smack dab in the middle of the room. At first I was thinking wow, here is the slipper, then it dawned on me that I had looked in this room and it was NOT there...I began to laugh, really laugh, thinking that she had played a good joke on her old ma, and must be giggling somewhere, somehow...I shared with my hubby and we both agreed, that we didn't know where she had kept it, but it was a good joke...and so like her to *play*!!!!
