Of Lady Bugs and Meatloaf ...

by Nancy Marcoux

My daughter is Jennifer Lynne Marcoux. On the POS Quilt (a quilt with many of our sons and daughters on it), I placed a lady bug along with her picture -- because as far back as I can remember, whereever Jennifer was, a lady bug was also sure to be. At first we all thought this was a bit odd, but as time went on we just accepted as second nature, and many started to nickname her Ms. Lady Bug Lover. Jennifer loved those little lady bugs. As Jenn got older, she had a pet name -- Lady Bug. I remember in class she told me many times a lady bug would fly onto her desk, staying there for the longest time.

When Jennifer ended her life, the lady bugs still would appear, walking along my car door. One of her very best friends got a new Jeep, and sure enough in the passenger side of the seat, there was a lady bug.

I have Jennifer's cat, Meatloaf. He must be about 14 now. Well, he is left alone a lot and someone told me about a video for cats. I looked into it ... because this person told me that cats adore the show and watch it everyday. I checked it out online -- they had a demo you could view to decide which tape you wanted, Birds and Butterflies or Bugs and Flying Things. When I ran the demo, Jenn's cat was nearby ... he perked right up and was drawn to the screen. So I ordered the tape Birds and Butterflies.

Meatloaf LOVED the video ... from the moment I put it in he was just awed by it and even got right up by the TV. In the video is a lady bug. Once Meatloaf saw the lady bug he reached up to paw the little thing. The lady bug is on a blade of grass and moves down off the blade of grass and starts spinning around, making Jenn's cat paw the lady bug even more, and then he let out a huge meow, kind of sad, and then another, while gently pawing the lady bug.

I wrote back a reply to the guy that makes these two tapes and told him it really did draw a cat's attention. My cat really liked the lady bug ... etc., and the letter went a little bit more into detail about the tape -- mostly Jenn's cat's reaction to the lady bug.

This guy, Robert Sorenson, wrote back and told me there is NO LADY BUG IN THE BIRDS & BUTTERFLY TAPE. I wrote back and told him YES THERE IS ... Finally he asked me to return the tape ... well, I really didn't want to, but I felt like I was maybe losing my mind or not seeing what was really there. I sent the tape back, only after he promised to return it to me.

Mr. Sorenson viewed the tape and called me.....he said this is some kind of fluke ... I just can't explain it. I have viewed over 100 tapes of Birds & Butterflies and no lady bug is in any of them. He was very confused. Then and only then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I told him "Yes a fluke, could you please send this tape back -- I know it's a sign from my daughter who ended her life." This guy was speechless, with no explanation whatsoever. He kept saying this is such a fluke.

I know it's a sign from my child -- wow, what a way to get my attention and see your cat :) I finally got it Jenn ... Thank You!
