Danny's Watch Reminder

by Sandy Nowalk

My son Jason called me from his home in New Mexico on his brother Danny's birthday, and we were each telling the other about special memories we shared with Danny. All of a sudden I heard a noise coming from Jason's end -- it was like an alarm going off, and I asked him what the noise was ... he said that he couldn't figure it out, because they had no alarm clock, no mircrowave oven ... nothing that would make that kind of noise.

As we kept talking the noise continued -- so, Jay said that he was going to walk in the direction of where the noise seemed to be coming from. All of a sudden the noise was getting louder and louder. Jay still on his portable phone was getting freaked out, because he couldn't find where it was coming from. He walked upstairs toward his bedroom and walked over to his dresser ... then he began opening up drawers -- there sat Danny's watch sending out its alarm.

Jay came back on the phone and was quite shook up and was crying. He then told me that he had put Danny's watch on his wrist the day of Danny's funeral... and he had worn it for 3 1/2 years, having to replace the battery several times. Then, sadly, in the summer of 2000 he had had to stop wearing it, because no matter if he put a new battery in it, or anything else he tried it just wouldn't work. The watch had lain in Jason's drawer for 10 months; there was no battery in it, and there was no logical answer as to why the alarm was going off.

When Jay picked up the watch, the alarm stopped!

Jason then said, "Mom, today is Danny's Birthday, you don't think he'd miss that do you ... Happy Birthday Buddy!"
