"That Damn Wolf"
by Christine De Mara
The week that my son Matt died in January 1999, he made his presence known to my non-believing brother-in-law, Christopher.
Chris was asleep and dreaming he was at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, CA, eating his lunch at a picnic table. (At one time Chris was a security guard at the Institute.) While Chris ate his lunch, he heard someone approach ... he looked up and Matt was standing there with (as Chris put it) "that damn wolf of his, Kami". Chris was always afraid of Kami since she was a wolf. Matt had had the sad duty of putting Kami down a month or so before he died. Anyway, there Matt was with Kami by his side in Chris's dream; he looked at Chris and smiled a big smile and said "Uncle Chris, I screwed up! But I am fine, and I love everyone". Then he was gone and Chris awoke, smelling Matt's Camel cigarette smoke..
