Seeing Elbows

by Christine De Mara

Dawn, my daughter, often wakes at night to see Matt, my son who died by suicide in 1999, standing in her bedroom telling her to wake up because her baby needs her. Moments later her son Dawson will wake crying.

Elizabeth, Dawn's daughter, also sees Matt in the apartment. She sees him walking in the hallway and as she turns to watch, he turns the corner and all she then sees is his elbow as he goes around the corner into the bedroom. She calls it seeing elbows!!!
