Rod Told Me What Time He Died

by Sandy Ogle

After Rod's death I had a habit of watching the clock every night starting about 8:30 pm. The medical examiner had placed his time of death as being between 8:30 and 9:20 pm, so I would look at the clock and think " was he still alive at this time?" I would keep doing this until 9:20 pm. This was an every night thing with me wanting to know the exact time.

One night about three or four months after Rod died I was in the kitchen and I kept hearing a strange sound. I came through the living room and it was even louder. I followed the sound and what I found was Rod's clock radio alarming. The time on it was 8:37 pm. I thought maybe one of my grandkids had messed with it and caused it to alarm, so I really gave it little thought. Later it hit me though that the kids had not been here for a couple days, so it couldn't have been them. I mentioned it to my daughter and she looked at the clock and said "it alarmed because it is set for 8:30".

I said ok and dismissed the thought thinking it may have been alarming that long and I just heard it. In a minute though my daughter said "didn't you say it was at night that it alarmed?" I told her yes, and she said "but it is set for 8:30 am". We just dismissed it as one of those strange happenings and forgot about it. A few nights later I was sitting in the living room when it alarmed again. I went into the bedroom to shut it off and noticed the time on it. Again the time was 8:37 pm. This time I couldn't deny that it was a sign from Rod letting me know that I could rest my mind about the time he died. I know he was telling me that he died at 8:37 pm.
